MILITARY CAREER
Commander Gregory P. Nordhougen graduated with a BA from Michigan State University in 1981 and was commissioned at the Naval Officer Candidate School, Newport, Rhode Island, in 1982. After attending the Supply Corps Basic Qualification Course, he reported to USS JACK WILLIAMS (FFG-24) as Assistant Supply Officer for Disbursing and Services. Following a tour as Supply and Fiscal Officer, Naval Security Group Activity Northwest in Chesapeake, Virginia, he returned to the Navy Supply Corps School for completion of the Department Head Course and subsequent assignment to USS O’BANNON (DD-987) as Supply Officer, where he qualified as a Surface Warfare Supply Corps Officer.
Upon release from active duty, Commander Nordhougen received his Master of Business Administration degree from Michigan State and affiliated with the Naval Reserve, where he completed three operational tours leading logistics specialists providing US and forward deployed direct fleet support as Aviation Supply Officer, Naval Air Station Sigonella, Italy; Transportation Officer, Fleet and Industrial Supply Center Guam; and Air Terminal Officer, Naval Air Station Sigonella.
After serving as Commanding Officer, Voluntary Training Unit, Detroit, Michigan, Commander Nordhougen began the first of two joint assignments as Logistics Readiness Center Watch Officer, Logistics Directorate (J4), United States Atlantic Command, Norfolk, Virginia, and as Logistics Cell Watch Officer, NATO Supreme Allied Commander Atlantic. Following a brief assignment to Commander, US Atlantic Fleet Joint Task Force Augment Midwest, he joined Naval Surface Weapons Center Crane, Indiana in October 2003 as a Project Manager for Material/Logistics Support, returning to the VTU in October 2004 and retiring in December 2005.
Commander Nordhougen is a graduate of the Naval War College and the Joint Forces Staff College, and completed courses at the Naval Postgraduate School, the NATO School and the National Defense University. In June 2002 he attended the NATO Defense College in Rome, Italy as the US Joint Staff’s Navy component selectee.
Prior to his naval service, he graduated from the Russian Course, Defense Language Institute, and he served in the US Army Security Agency (USAR) as a Cryptologic Linguist at the rank of sergeant until reporting to Navy Officer Candidate School.
Commander Nordhougen’s awards include the Joint Service Commendation Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and various unit and service awards.
